Cambodian Investor Seeks Justice Over Alleged Financial Misconduct by Company Chairman

(Phnom Penh) – An investor and shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally appealed to the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia, seeking intervention in a case involving Yamada Taihei, the company’s Chairman of the Board, who stands accused of serious breaches of trust.

According to the submissions, Yamada Taihei, a Japanese national, allegedly exploited his position to misappropriate funds, manipulate real estate transactions, and defraud shareholders for personal gain. Preliminary investigations suggest that around USD 4 million may have been misappropriated.

The investor’s letters detail claims that Yamada Taihei engaged in unilateral decision-making that disregarded the rights of other shareholders. These alleged actions include fabricating business transactions, arranging loans totaling over USD 7 million under false pretenses, forging documents, and diverting cash through multiple shell companies controlled by him and his associates. Part of the diverted funds was reportedly transferred to an overseas bank account in the name of Yamada Taihei’s wife.

Further allegations suggest that Yamada Taihei established several shell companies in countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia, appointing nominees to act as representatives while retaining direct control over all financial activities.

In Cambodia, he has already faced charges in at least two criminal cases, with assets and bank accounts frozen under court orders. Additional investigations are reportedly ongoing. Authorities in several other countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, are also said to be reviewing related financial activities and potential offenses, including embezzlement, forgery, and money laundering.

The investor’s appeal to the Ministry of Justice emphasizes the need for thorough investigations and judicial action to ensure justice is served. Concerns were raised over potential interference by influential individuals that could obstruct the legal process, compromise witness testimony, or allow evidence destruction.

The letters reflect the investor’s hope that Cambodian courts will take decisive action to hold the accused accountable and protect the integrity of the judicial process.
